Twins Bag

£540.00

The Twins Bag is made from willow bark and river sedge using a combination of check weave and pairing. The uprights (or ‘skeleton’) of the basket are constructed from bark, giving it a fairly rigid feel and making it heavier than a rush basket. The fixtures are hand carved from walnut, and the strap is hand woven from plant-dyed yarns, with colours selected to complement the vibrant natural hues of the basket materials. This special double pod shape was first hand crafted from sheets of wax, with the basketry and wooden elements then carefully shaped and fitted over the top. When the piece was complete the wax mould was broken and removed, meaning this unique shape is a real one-off.

This characterful bag has two identical lidded compartments. The lids open outwards on hand carved walnut hinges, and are fastened using a wooden tension clasp design developed by Elizabeth especially for her baskets. The strap, hand woven on a traditional back-strap loom, is adjustable, meaning the bag height can be adjusted for different wearers. An eye-catching small foraging bag or day purse, this basket would also make an exceptional decorative wall piece.

Crafted entirely by hand, from hand-harvested materials that grow wild in the landscapes of South West Britain.
