Introduction to Rush Weaving

  • Sampford Spiney Tavistock United Kingdom (map)

This workshop will equip you with some fundamental techniques for weaving with one of our most versatile native basketry materials - soft river rush. Traditionally rush has been used in Britain to make bags, hats, chair seats and matting, among other items. Strong and durable, it also combines well with other materials. During our day together, you will use check weave and pairing to make a small dish or pot with a track border. If time allows, we will also make cordage and learn a simple plait.

The workshop will take place in a beautiful, rural location in West Dartmoor, not far from Tavistock. You will need to bring a packed lunch.

Cost: £65 including materials
